Boy I hit that wishlist button so hard it broke steam for the next five years

[RMMV] Basic help with uploading the game to Steam with SteamPipe

If you're using the most recent version of the SDK, they've included a GUI upload tool that makes it a lot easier.

Here I gooooo!

Crescent Prism: Chapter 1

author=NeverSilent
Aw, this game had to be put on hiatus? That's too bad. I hope you can get back to it eventually, though. Best of luck with whatever is on your list of priorities right now!

Hey there! Hope I didnt disappoint everyone TOO much. Haha. But yes, Crescent Prism is on hold for the time being for two reasons:

1. Over the summer I took upon significantly more responsibility in my work life and had been very pressed for time to work on a project of this scale alongside it and,
2. In lieu of that life change, I decided to take upon a smaller project: Brave Hero Yuusha EX

To be honest, I have barely worked on CP since July, and I don't want to become one of those developers who drip-feeds tiny updates for years. So I would rather be transparent and put the game on hiatus since the game has not been actively worked on in at least five months. Some devs can consider working on a game 15 minutes a month as "in development" but I guess I'm not one of them. Haha.

I hope I can return to it someday! There's a lot of big revisions I need to make when I pick it back up again.

Guys, we have 1/3 of the Misao nominations that we had last year. C'mon! Nominate! Go! Go! Go!

It was a pretty big year for jam games! Not so much for bigger project releases.

[RMMV] [RMVX ACE] Okay, Let's Have This Discussion: Sample Maps

author=JosephSeraph
DONT CRUCIFY PEOPLE FOR USING PREMADE ASSETS BUT ITS TOTALLY COOL IF YOU MAKE CUSTOM STUFF YOURSELF EVERYBODY IS COOL LET'S JUST ALL GET CREATIVE AND REMEMBER: GREEN IS NOT A CREATIVE COLOR

And if you still can't, well, there's literally 50 million artists on Twitter looking for work. Commission them for those assets and help them out!

[RMVX ACE] compression my eternal nemesis

I've had this happen.

Check your graphics files. You may have two different file formats for the same asset and one of them is unreadable to VX Ace.

For example, if you have Character1.png and Character1.ase (a file format that can be only read by a specific program. In this case: Aseprite), RPG Maker will prioritize the ase file and try to load that one instead of readable png, causing the error.

It's very bizarre in that VXA will ONLY do this when the game is encrypted. Which is why you never encountered it in playtesting.

I guess you answered your own question, nvm

Missing Generic RPGS?

In fairness, making a trope-y and by-the-numbers JRPG in this day and age is kind of a risk because you could just end up with something uninteresting and predictable. I'd even go so far as to say that, at this point, many JRPG fans have played their fair share of those games and if your audience knows exactly what to expect in your game you could easily lose their interest if there's no big spin on it to keep them hooked.

That said, I find that a lot indie devs are more apt to emulate the SNES FF4-6 style of RPG, rather than the more markedly NES-sounding games that I think you're describing. They're definitely an uncharted territory.

[Poll] Will people be to worried/scared to make Pokemon RPGs Now, due to Nintendo?

author=Kylaila
Rather than worried or scared, it just makes me feel it's smarter to repackage them and avoid copyrighted names etc. Call it something else and so forth. Why put so much work into something that might be targeted when you can avoid the hassle?

Despite an extensive history of takedowns and IP enforcement, some people still do Nintendo IP fangames as "tributes". Even though Nintendo's not going to stumble across a fangame and think "Wow, what a nice tribute." They're not going to find it heartwarming, and they're probably not going to give you a job for it.
